Old Glory DC Re-Signs Owen Sheehy

Old Glory DC re-signed Owen Sheehy for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old flyhalf/fullback (23 in March) is 6’0” and 195 lbs.

Owen played 40 minutes in 3 matches for Old Glory in 2021. He then played for the USA Select XV in the Americas Pacific Challenge in Uruguay.

Owen was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and attended Gonzaga College High School from 2015-2018. While there, he helped the team win two high school national championship rugby titles in 2016 and 2017. He represented the High School All-Americans in 2017. He also won three Penn Mutual High School sevens championships with the Maryland Exiles and DMV United sevens team.

He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018, majoring in Chemistry and Genetics. He played rugby and was named the Top National D1A Freshman Player of the Week his first semester.  He also was named to the USA U19  in 2018 and was honored as a Collegiate All-American 7s Honorable Mention in 2019. He returned to the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Fall, the off-season for MLR.

“Owen is an exciting player who developed well last season,” said Head Coach Andrew Douglas. “He learned a lot and has returned this season a more mature player. He was part of the US Rugby U23 squad that toured South America and I believe he is capable if he continues his current development of stepping up to the full squad at some stage.”
