NOLA Gold Rugby Club has Malcolm May returning for the second year of the contract he signed through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old (26 in March) back row is 6’1″ and 230lbs.
Malcolm played 315 minutes in 7 matches, starting 4 for NOLA Gold in 2021. During 2020, he played 169 minutes, starting the first match against Old Glory DC, and then was a reserve for the last four matches.
He played 45 minutes in two matches for NOLA Gold in 2019 as an injury curtailed his season. He had 2 carries for 10 meters, made 8 tackles, and had 1 lineout take.
May is from Chicago, Illinois, and went to St. Ignatius College Preparatory School. In high school, he played football as a running back and defensive end. He also played rugby in high school and was honored in both 2012 and in 2014 as a High School All-American. In 2014 the All-Americans traveled to Argentina. In 2014 he also played for the U.S. in the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China in rugby sevens.
After high school, May attended Penn State University from 2013 through 2018 majoring in Rehabilitation and Human Services. In 2017 he was selected to the second team Collegiate All-Americans and in 2018 to the first team. He attended camp for the Men’s Collegiate All-Americans in 2018 and was part of the team that beat the Glendale Raptors.
Malcolm played in preseason matches for NOLA Gold and then in two 2019 matches before an Achilles injury in February ended his season. During Summer 2019 he was an Assistant Coach for New Orleans Sevens Second Side. He also was the team manager for NOLA Gold at the 2019 Rugbytown 7s where the team finished in third place.
