NOLA Gold Carl Meyer 2022 Profile

NOLA Gold Rugby Club’s Carl Meyer returns for the final year of a three-year contract for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old fullback/center (31 in May) is 6’3″ and 230 lbs.

Carl played 693 minutes in 10 starts and scored 65 points (2 tries, 11 conversions, and 11 penalty goals) for the team in 2021.

Carl played 382 minutes in 5 starts for NOLA Gold during the pandemic shortened season. Three of his starts were at outside center and the other two were at fullback. He was also the kicker at goal for most matches, scoring 48 points (2 tries, 13 conversions, and 4 penalty goals).

In Fall 2020, Carl played with Rhino Rugby Tens at the World Tens Series in Bermuda. In the 2021 NOLA Gold preseason, Carl started at fullback against the Houston SaberCats.

Carl is from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and finished Maritzburg College in 2009. He played cricket his first year and then concentrated on rugby, playing for the first team and making the Pietermaritzburg Schools side his final year. He played rugby in the Sharks Academy and Under-19 squad from 2010-2011. In 2011, he also spent time with the Investec International Elite Rugby Academy.

Meyer played for the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in the Varsity Cup and pursued a Marketing Degree, but left prior to graduating to join Ebbw Vale RFC from 2013-15 in the Welsh Principality Premiership. He then signed with the Dragons from 2015-2018 in the PRO14 competition, the Anglo-Welsh Cup, and the European Challenge Cup.

In 2019 Meyer played for the Northwood Crusaders in Durban, South Africa.

When he is not involved with rugby, Carl enjoys playing golf, exploring new destinations, and spending time with friends and family.
