The Dallas Jackals signed Tommy Madaras for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old prop is 6’2″ and 280 lbs.
Tommy is from Itasca, IL, and attended Saint Viator High School where he was a three-sport athlete playing football, water polo, and swimming. In football, he was a defensive and offensive tackle.
After high school, he attended Marquette University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, and then continued to Marquette University Law School. As an undergraduate, he was introduced to rugby, however, he continued his football career playing in the Rivals Professional Football League and in the Arena Football League. He played football with the Detroit Cougars and the Columbus Lions.
He later returned to rugby, joining the Colorado XO’s, which later became the American Raptors, and toured with the team to Uruguay, where they played Uruguay’s Academy team.
Dallas Jackals Comments
In his free time, Madaras enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and working out. He and his long-time girlfriend Tricia recently got a Goldendoodle puppy named Ozzie.
Madaras said, “I’m really humbled to have this opportunity to join the Jackals and be part of the MLR. My sports career has taken me all over the country from football leagues to rugby leagues, so I’m happy that I can continue developing as a rugby player.”
When asked about Dallas, Madaras said, “In Dallas, I’m looking forward to exploring the food scene. I love checking out new restaurants, so we will be hitting up every BBQ joint possible. Having recently been playing in Colorado, I’m also excited for some warmer weather.”
Dallas Jackals GM Elaine Vassie said, “Having first spoke to Tommy almost 18 months ago while he was still actively training for football, it’s been fantastic to follow his transition to rugby and see the progress he’s made. Mobile and dynamic, gaining experience at tighthead over the last season with the Raptors will have paid dividends and we’re looking forward to supporting him in his next steps!
Welcome to the Pack Tommy and Tricia!
