Utah Warriors Franco van den Berg 2022 Profile

The Utah Warriors re-signed Franco Van den Berg for the 2022 Major League Rugby season, his fourth with the team. The 25-year-old loosehead prop is 6’0″ and 265 lbs.

Franco played 753 minutes in 14 matches, starting 11, and scored one try for the Utah Warriors in 2021.

He started all five matches, playing 284 minutes, during the truncated 2020 MLR season. During the 2019 season, he played 1013 minutes in all 16 matches, scored two tries, carried 92 times for 518 meters, and made 112 tackles.

Franco is from Randburg, Gauteng, South Africa, and attended Hoërskool Randburg from 2010-2014. He then studied at the University of Pretoria in 2015, studying law.

Franco played rugby in school and with the Blue Bulls since 2015 and played with the Under-19s and Under-21s in the Provincial Championships. He was selected for the Junior Springboks for the 2016 World Rugby Under-20s Championship and also played with the U20s in 2017. Franco has also played with the UP Tuks.

Franco was a key member of the Utah Warriors in 2019 and in 2020. He is married to Zoë and the family atmosphere promoted by the Warriors assists with adjustments made when moving from other countries and areas.
