The Rugby Road of Dallas Jackals’ Oliver Feagin

The Dallas Jackals signed Oliver Feagin to their Development Team for 2022. The 22-year-old center (23 in June) is 6’2″ and 228 lbs.

Oliver was born in Long Beach, California, and raised in Harbor City, California. He wrestled for 3 years in high school and played football for 4 years, attending Narbonne High School from 2013-2015 and then transferring to Carson High School from 2015-2017.

After high school, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2017-2019 on an academic scholarship study Aerospace Engineering. While there, he played Varsity football, club wrestling, and club rugby. In his second year, he was a player-coach for the rugby sevens side, where he drew upon his rugby knowledge from watching the World Sevens Series since he was 10 years old.

In Summer 2019 he played club sevens for Santa Monica Rugby Club and played for Southern California U20s against Rugby Mexico U20s.

Because Oliver wanted to develop his rugby skills, he felt he needed to transfer to another college. This led him to British Columbia, where he received a partial scholarship for Trinty Western University’s inaugural season of rugby in Fall 2019. There he majored in Psychology and in Business Management. His stay in British Columbia, however, was curtailed when financial issues had him returning home.

In Spring 2020 he played with Santa Monica Rugby Club in XVs before moving to Marietta, Georgia to attend Life University, where he majored in Psychology and in Business Management. He played for Life University Men’s Club while there.

Oliver felt that he needed to continue to improve his skills and thought that an international experience was warranted. He traveled to Pretoria, South Africa in Spring 2021 and attended the Rugby Travel Academy, and played for Centurion Rugby Club in the Bull Bulls Carlton Cup League.

His journey continued, as he moved to Ireland to attend Rugby Academy Ireland and also played for Newbridge Rugby this Fall.

Oliver has now signed with the Dallas Jackals as a Development player but hopes that his performance reflects his growth and that should an opportunity exist to move up to the MLR side, that he will be an asset.

Dallas Jackals Comments

“Being signed by the Dallas Jackals is an amazing opportunity to continue my rugby journey and make my first step as a professional player,” Feagin said. “I am very grateful and very thankful to the Jackals organization for giving me this opportunity.”

When asked about Dallas, he said, “I am most looking forward to experiencing life in Dallas and getting out into the community to spread the word about rugby and the Jackals organization.”

GM Elaine Vassie said, “Welcome to the Pack Oliver!
