National tournament comes to Tukwila on August 14–15, 2021

Starfire Sports in Tukwila, home of Major League Rugby’s two-time champion Seattle Seawolves, will host the 2021 USA National Rugby 7s Tournament on August 14–15, 2021. The tournament is presented by the Washington Athletic Club, the event’s primary sponsor. Started in 1985,the national 7s tournament is a critical event in the landscape of American rugby as thousands of college players pour into 7s programs to participate in qualifiers for the event. Tukwila’s Starfire Sports was previously the host of the 2014 national 7s championship, the first major rugby event held in the venue.

“Starfire Sports is a proven host facility,” says Tony Ridnell, director of the national tournament. “The city of Tukwila has become a significant rugby contributor in recent years.”

In addition to serving as the presenting sponsor of the 2021 tournament, the Washington Athletic Club will also enter its men’s and women’s teams in the event. The WAC’s rugby teams are no stranger to success. The men captured the national club championship in Kansas City in 2019 and the women placed fifth. The WAC also proudly sponsors college rugby’s prestigious Sorensen & Scholz awards, presented annually to the top male and female collegiate player in the country. “Thanks to the Washington Athletic Club for their continued support of rugby in the Pacific Northwest,” Ridnell says.
