Rugby United New York Signs Max Dacey

Rugby United New York signed Max Dacey as cover for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old lock is 6’7″ and 250 lbs.

Max played for Colorado XO at the RugbyTown Crossover Academy in 2020-2021. This was his second time with Glendale, as he was the captain of the Glendale Academy team in 2017.

Max is from Alexandria, Virginia, and began playing rugby with Fort Hunt Rugby Club when he was six years old through his middle school years. He played rugby in high school, winning three state championships. In the fall of his senior year, he attended Presentation Brothers College in Cork, Ireland, and played rugby.

Following his graduation from West Potomac High School in 2016, he attended the University of Mary Washington for the 2016-2017 academic year and played rugby. He played for the USA Rugby South’s U19 in winning the Rugby Americas North championship in 2017. He also played for the USA U20s in the World Rugby Trophy qualifier against Canada in 2018.

He then moved to Colorado and was the captain of the Glendale Rugby Academy side in 2017 and played for the Glendale Merlins in 2018. A back injury, however, sidelined him from playing rugby for almost three years.

He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2019, where he is majoring in Public Relations and Communications. He began training with the University of Colorado Rugby team in 2020 but did not play as he joined the RugbyToiwn Crossover Academy in the fifth week and was available for the Colorado XO team from the third match of a ten-match 2020-2021 season.

When he is not involved with rugby he enjoys snowboarding and hiking. He has also been a Boy Scout leader at Camp Bowman and has taught formal dancing for four years.

Max joins Rugby United New York to provide cover at lock while both Nate Brakeley and Nick Civetta are playing for the USA in the July internationals against England and Ireland. It provides him with the opportunity of playing professional rugby while being able to go back to the University of Colorado after the remainder of the MLR season.

“The Colorado XO team wanted to recruit a few young experienced rugby players to help bring the newer players along, with both the sport and culture. Max did this and more.
