The New England Free Jacks signed Josateki Degei for the remainder of the e2021 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old fullback is 6’3″ and 195 lbs.
Josateki was signed by the Dallas Jackals for the 2021 season but after they postponed the team entering MLR until 2022, he was a free agent. With his signing with the Free Jacks, he will count as a domestic player for the 2021 season.
Josateki is from Sigatoka, Fiji, and attended Ratu Kadavulevu School, and then Lodoniversity.
In 2016, Josateki joined the Suva Stallions Rugby Club and Suva Rugby. The Suva Stallions Rugby Club is part of the Escott Shield Premier league. Suva Rugby, a Fiji Rugby Provincial Club, is the oldest and largest provisional union in Fiji. In 2018, Josateki won the Provincial Regional Championships, with Suva Rugby. He continued with the Stallions and Suva Rugby through 2019. josateki also played rugby for Fiji Bitter Gaunavou and the Barbarian Brothers.
National Team
In 2017 he represented Fiji in the U20s, winning the Oceania 7s and playing in the World Rugby U20 Trophy competition.
In 2017/2018 he played in the World Rugby Pacific Challenge and also during 2019/2020. In 2020 he was part of the Fijian Latui extended squad for the Global Rapid Rugby season, as well as for the 2020 Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors. He also helped Namosi Rugby Club win the 2020 Skipper Cup over Yasawa.
