LA Giltinis added Academy and Belmont Shore back-row Ben Weischedel for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 31-year-old is 6’2″ and 220 lbs.
Ben is from San Pedro, California, and attended San Pedro Senior High School, graduating in 2009. He played football as a tight end and defensive back and was a forward in basketball.
He continued to play football as a tight end while at Willamette University, graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology.
Following his graduation in 2013, he played professional football in France for the Nimes Centurions as a tight end, receiver, and running back.
Ben played rugby with the LA Rugby Club in 2014 and has since continued to play with Belmont Shore RFC. He has played in the California Cup in 2016, and in the Pacific Rugby Premiership, winning the championship in 2018, as well as starting in the USA Club Rugby Division 1 National Championship in 2018 against Mystic River. He also was on the club’s sevens team at Club Sevens Nationals as recently as 2019.
He played for the SoCal Griffons in the RugbyTown 7s in 2016, 2018, and 2019, winning the Bowl Championship in 2019.
