The Toronto Arrows added Ronan Foley for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old flanker/No.8 is 6’3″ and 230 lbs.
Ronan played rugby for St. Mary’s in 2016 before attending University College Dublin. He initially played for the team’s U20s, but a year later joined the senior side. He was the Club Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season in 2017-2018 and was the team’s captain in the All-Ireland League in 2020-2021.
Ronan played for Ireland’s U20 in the 2017-18 U20 Six Nations against Italy, Wales, and Scotland. He also went through the Leinster Academy, played for Leinster A, and earned one cap with Leinster’s senior side in 2019.
Although from Ireland, Foley’s parents are Canadian citizens and Ronan has a Canadian passport and will be designated as a domestic player.
Toronto Arrows Comments
The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce the signings of Ireland under-20 grad Ronan Foley, French-Canadian prop Alexandre Janlin, and Ontario Blues-developed lock Hank Stevenson for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season.
“Challenging situations make for creative solutions, and we are very happy to have found some Canadian talent that can help us down the stretch,” said Mark Winokur, Toronto Arrows Chief Operating Officer, and General Manager. “Alex, Ronan, and Henry are all keen to dive into the team environment and help out, and we can’t ask for anything more. It helps that all three are talented Canadian players who will make us more competitive over the last quarter of the season.”
