Rugby ATL added Samuel Cowley for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old fullback/wing is 6’2″ and 195 lbs.
Sam is from Wigan, England and later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he attended Charlotte Catholic High School and played rugby. His senior year he played for the North Carolina U19 All-Stars, as well as was a USA Rugby High School All-American playing in the Stars and Stripes match. He also toured with the High School All-Americans in 2012 to Wellington, England.
He attended Life University from 2013-2017 earning a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, before continuing at Life and pursuing a Master’s Degree in Positive Psychology (2020-2021).
Sam played rugby as an undergraduate at Life University and continued with the Men’s team when he went to graduate school. In 2015 he was a USA Rugby Collegiate All-American Honorable Mention in Sevens. The team won the D1A Rugby National Championship in 2016 and were runners-up in 2014, 2015, and 2017. He also won the 2019 USA Rugby Club Divison 1 National 2019 Championship with Life’s Running Eagles over the Austin Blacks and was awarded the MVP for the Championship.
Sam also gained a National Championship in rugby league with the Atlanta Rhinos.
