Austin Gilgronis Signs Patrick Coleman

Austin Gilgronis signed Patrick Coleman for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old hooker/No.8 is 6’0″ and 230 lbs.

Patrick is from Frazier Park, California, and attended Frazier Mountain High School where he played football and basketball, graduating in 2012. He moved to Santa Barbara to attend college at Santa Barbara Community College, where he tried out for the basketball team but wasn’t selected. He then worked and attended the Santa Barbara Rugby Academy in 2018.

Patrick moved to Cedar Park, Texas, and joined the Austin Huns, which he has played for the last two years. He was recently voted the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Austin Gilgronis Rugby Comments

“It’s been an awesome first week here with the AGs and the players and coaches are all really genuine guys and I felt like part of the family from day one,” says Coleman. “Coming from the Huns, I know I represent a lot of the guys out there training down at Nixon Lane that are huge fans of this team –  that is also hoping to make it to the AGs one day, and I want to make those guys proud and hopefully open the door for more Huns to get the call up”

AG head coach Sam Harris has had his eye on Coleman for months, “When Mark and I touched down in Austin at the start of the new year, Patrick Coleman was a guy we were told to keep our eye on, and so we’ve monitored his play and progress all season. It was clear week after week that his performance was only improving. I think Pat can come into the AG squad and learn a ton, continue to improve, and contribute to this team immediately.”

He joined on with the Austin Huns in 2020 and had a breakout performance at No. 8 and hooker, scoring nine tries in six games, and earning club MVP as the Huns went on to win the Division 1 State Championship.

“It’s been a really special experience playing for the Huns on Saturdays and watching the AGs on Saturday nights; becoming a huge fan of this team, learning all the players’ names, and then getting the opportunity to play alongside them,” says Coleman.

Welcome to the AGs, Patrick Coleman!
