USA Men’s National Team Extended July Test Roster

USA Men’s National Team will play two July internationals against England on July 4 at Twickenham in London and Ireland on July 10 at Aviva Stadium, in Dublin.

Head Coach Gary Gold has selected a preliminary roster of 41 players for the July test matches before narrowing the team to 30 to travel. This will mark the first time the Eagles have assembled since Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.

Major League Rugby, whose season is in progress, will include 31 players or about 75% of the extended roster. All eleven of the U.S.-based MLR teams have players included on the extended roster. NOLA Gold has 5, Rugby United New York, Utah Warriors, and Austin Gilronis have 4 each, Old Glory DC, San Diego Legion, and eachLA Giltinis have 3 apiece, Rugby ATL 2, and New England Free Jacks, Houston SaberCats, and Seattle Seawolves 1.

Gary Gold and his staff will continue to evaluate the roster over the next few weeks before making the final selections for the 30 players traveling for the July tests. The remaining players will serve as injury reserves. The final selection will be made toward the end of June.

Coach Gold said:

“It’s taken us some time to come up with this list of players and I’m very happy to see this group of guys make even more strides in the coming weeks.

“A huge thank you to all the MLR clubs, not just for working with us as we select this group, but also in delivering a competitive training and competition environment that will help us get on the front foot in the short time we have ahead of facing England and Ireland.

“We still have some work to do in terms of making final selections but we are excited to see the final squad of 30 come together and to play some meaningful games this year.”

The Eagles staff will include Rob Hoadley as an Assistant Coach and Eagle Alumnus Chris Wyles as a Coach Consultant for the July tests specifically. Hoadley has coached at Wasps, Stanford University, and San Diego Legion, while Wyles most recently spent 10 years with Saracens before retiring as a player.

Following the July test, the Eagles will assemble in September for a two-part Rugby World Cup qualification series against rivals Canada. The first match is yet to be confirmed, while the second will be on September 11 at Infinity Park in Glendale, CO. A final qualification series against a team from South America may follow along with a fall test schedule that is currently being organized.
