Old Glory DC Release
“Brianna Kim has been a great addition to the academy coaching team,” said Old Glory Head Coach Andrew Douglas. “She has a great knowledge of the local rugby scene and is excited about progressing her coaching career. Her rugby knowledge has been well received on OG broadcasts, and we’re looking forward to her growing the local talent in the area.”
Brianna (Bri) Kim started playing rugby at the University of Virginia in 2011 and co-captained the team during her last year. She was a Junior All-American and two-time Collegiate All-American, playing in multiple tours and captaining the USA U-20s in the 2014 Can-Am Series. She has competed at multiple 15s and 7s nationals with Northern Virginia (NOVA) WRFC, and co-captained the 2019 team that won the USA Rugby Division 1 Club National Championship. She was also named championship MVP. She continues to play for NOVA and select sides such as the Capital Selects and Atlantis. In addition to this role, Kim also is the co-host of Old Glory’s official podcast, The Road to Glory, and is a sideline reporter for Major League Rugby games.
“I am thrilled and honored to be leading this endeavor for Old Glory DC and the greater DMV, a place I’ve called home all my life,” said Brianna Kim. “Though our progress has been slowed by COVID, I’m excited to get to work with individual players and local teams to better understand their own needs and how Old Glory can further their development. I hope to build a strong, sustainable framework for the Academy this season, that can be further built upon and fortified in years to come. It is absolutely crucial that we provide transparent access to these professional resources, to both girls and boys alike.”
As Academy Director, Kim will oversee all operations and developments of the academy squads. She will work closely with Head Coach Andrew Douglas and Player Pathways Director Tim Brown to further develop the Old Glory DC Academy system, identify upcoming talent, and create professional rugby development opportunities for the rugby community.
Old Glory DC will host a joint event this Saturday, May 15th, with USA Rugby at West Potomac High School in Alexandria, VA. This event will serve as a talent identification camp for the National Team and as a combine and evaluation opportunity for the Old Glory U19 Academy coaches in preparation for the upcoming Academy events later this summer. Athletes will have the opportunity to earn invitations to later junior national team talent/develop camps and attend OG Academy training and subsequent matches.
