Seattle Seawolves Adds James Malcolm

Seattle Seawolves signed James Malcolm for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old hooker/prop is 6’2″ and 236 lbs.

James was originally signed by the Dallas Jackals for the 2021 MLR season, however, when the team postponed entering the league until 2022, he became a free agent and now joins the Seawolves.

James is from Glasgow, Scotland. He began playing rugby when he was 9 years old at Hutcheson’s Grammar School in Glasgow, playing for the Glasgow Hutchesons Aloysians (GHA) RFC. He was also the captain of his age group throughout his time there.

He represented Scotland on the U17, U18, and U20 age-levels. In 2013 he joined Ayr Rugby Football Club in the Scottish Premiership and continued to play with the team through 2017 and again in the 2018-2019 season.

He also was part of the Elite Development Program with the Glasgow Warriors during 2014-2015. He was also part of the Elite Athlete program at the University of Strathclyde, which enables athletes to balance training and competition with their schooling. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has since been employed in that field.

Following his graduation from the Scottish Rugby Academy, he signed a professional rugby contract with the Glasgow Warriors in March 2016, making his PRO 12 debut away against the Cardiff Blues. Since then, he has appeared in 25 matches, while continuing to represent Ayr, Marr (2017-18), and Ayr again (2018-19 in the Scottish Premiership. He was also loaned by the Warriors to the Doncaster Knights of the Greene King IPA Championship for the 2018-2019 season.

James was selected Scotland’s extended 2018 Six Nations Championship squad.

James comes from a family of athletes. His dad captained the Glasgow district team (now known as the Glasgow Warriors), his brother represented Scotland at many age-group levels and played alongside James at GHA, and his sister is the current captain of the Women’s Scotland team. Outside of rugby, his other sister played hockey and his mom played netball. Needless to say, sports have always been a big part of his life. James says he enjoys outdoor sports, specifically golf and hiking, and has grown up with many dogs, predominantly black labradors.
