Rugby ATL re-signed Harry Higgins for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old flanker/lock is 6’3″ and 230 lbs.
Harry played 47 minutes in his lone start of the 2020 Covid-19 shortened season. He also played for the 404 pathway in Fall 2020.
Harry was born in Brisbane, Australia and began playing rugby for the Brisbane West’s Bulldogs since 1996 and was the team’s captain in 2019. He attended Brisbane Grammar School from 2004-2008.
Harry played for the Austin Blacks and for Arkansas State University, where he attended from 2011-2015. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and another in International Business. He also helped the university win back to back Rugby National Championships in 2012 and in 2013. He was also honored as an All-American.
In 2015 Harry moved to New York City where he played with Old Blue and the Northeast Academy under Marty Veale, who is the current Rugby United New York Forwards Coach. Veale was also a National team coach when Harry made his debut for the Eagles in June 2016 against Italy in San Jose, California. That would be his sole appearance for Eagle 495.
While in New York, Harry also was a coach and youth mentor for Play Rugby USA.
Harry then returned to Australia and continued to play with Wests Premiers, as well as the West Harbour Pirates.
Harry also has played rugby sevens. He played in the Halloween 7s in 2015 and for the Northeast Academy. He was a Tiger Rugby trainee in 2014 and has continued representing Tiger Rugby since then. He played with Tiger Rugby at the Rugbytown 7s in 2018 and 209, the Melrose 7s and the Hong Kong 10s in 2018.
