Rugby ATL re-signed Amro Gouda for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old hooker is 6’1″ and 240 lbs.
Amro was on the reserves roster for Rugby ATL for four matches during 2020 and played in two for 39 minutes. During the Fall he played for Life’s Club Men’s Team.
Amro played hooker and prop with the Houston SaberCats during the 2019 MLR season, playing 153 minutes in 11 matches with the SaberCats. He carried 15 times for 57 meters and made 24 tackles. During the Fall 2019 season, he played with 404 Rugby ATL in the American Rugby Premiership.
During the 2018 season, he played 74 minutes in 6 matches with NOLA Gold.
Amro is from Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a long-standing member of the Charlotte Rugby Club as a player, captain, and coach for the Charlotte Junior Rugby Association.
He attended Providence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He then attended the University of North Carolina, Charlotte from 2010-2014 earning a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Political Science and Government and a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Economics. He also played rugby at the University.
Amro played representative rugby for the USA Rugby South Panthers, Stars Rugby XVs, and for Negro y Azul 7s.
With USA Rugby South, he played in the Savannah St. Patrick’s Tournament and against the Capital Rugby Union Selects in 2017. He played against the Cayman Islands in the 2018 RAN Championship and toured with the Panthers to Central Europe against Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
He played for Stars Rugby XVs against Life University in 2015, as well as in sevens in Tobago in 2014 and Las Vegas in 2015. He also played in the Rugbytown 7s with Negro y Azul in 2015.
Amro moved to New Orleans and played with the New Orleans RFC, as well as NOLA Gold Rugby Club in 2018. He appeared in preseason matches with NOLA Gold before signing with the Houston SaberCAts in 2019. He now moves closer to home with the Rugby ATL for 2020.
