GLENDALE, CO (March 3, 2021) – World Rugby today announced details surrounding the return of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series for 2021, along with notable Olympic preparation events ahead of the Tokyo games. Los Angeles will play host to a preparation tournament at Dignity Health Sports Park, slated for June 25-26. AEG Rugby and USA Rugby will partner to produce the event with the funding support of World Rugby. Event specifics are still to come as the impact of COVID-19 on sporting events continues to develop.

“It’s been a long year since Los Angeles last hosted international rugby in March 2020, this is very welcome news for us and the rugby community,” noted USA Rugby CEO, Ross Young, “With the Olympics only a month to follow, this warmup competition will serve as a significant stage for our athletes as they journey to Tokyo.”

AEG Rugby Director, Dan Lyle added, “We are working hard with all stakeholders to deliver a prep event that mirrors as an Olympic Trials for our teams. Public safety and player welfare will guide us as we look to build towards a world-class competition that we hope will be broadcast live and attended by fans looking to send the players off with huge momentum.”
