Houston SaberCats Re-Signs Van Stewart

Houston SaberCats re-signed Van Stewart for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old flanker/lock (24 in June) is 6’4″ and 230lbs.

Van joined the SaberCats for 2020 and played 26 minutes as a reserve in two matches. Following the truncated season, he returned to Australia and played with the Manly Marlins in the Shute Shield.

Van is from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and attended St. Luke’s Grammar School. He is U.S eligible through his mother. He played rugby juniors at Seaforth Raiders, then with the Manly Colts in 2016 before advancing to the first-grade Manly Marlins team in 2019. His athleticism all over the field, as well as lineout play, was an asset for the SaberCats in 2020, and will in the future.
