NOLA Gold General Manager Ryan Fitzgerald confirmed that Carmen Consolino, the team’s 2021 MLR Collegiate Draft Round 3, Pick 30, has signed with the team for 2022. The 22-year-old flyhalf (23 in February) is 5’10” and 180 lbs.
Carmen is from Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and attended Elkhorn Area High School, graduating in 2017. He played four years of Varsity rugby, advanced to three state finals, and was the man of the match in 2017.
He was on the All-State Selects team three years, playing with the U17s and U19s, was team captain in 2017 for Team Wisconsin, and helped them to a third-place finish in the Rocky Mountain RCT in 2017.
From 2017-2021, he attended American International College and started all four years. He was an associate captain in 2018-2019, a captain in 2019-2020, and vice-captain in 2020-2021. The team won the conference championship in 2018 and finished in second place at the College 7s Nationals in Spring 2019.
Carmen played with the Northeast Academy in the New York Sevens in 2018, and in 2019 with the Milwaukee Rugby Club, which won second place at the Midwest Sevens Championship and competed at the Men’s Club Sevens National Championship.
Carmen played with the New England Independents on May 23, 2021, against the Rugby New York U23s, and for the Loonies on October 9, 2021, in the inaugural Premier Rugby Sevens professional tournament. He also played for the Hartford Harpooners.
