Rugby United New York Signs Dan Hollinstead

Rugby United New York signed Dan Hollinshead for the 2021 Major league Rugby season. The 25-year-old flyhalf (26 in June) is 6’1″ and 205 lbs.

Dan was born in Tauranga, New Zealand, and attended Tauranga Boys College. He played on the 1st XV in rugby and toured with the team to the United Kingdom and Hong Kong in 2013. He played for the New Zealand Schools Barbarians Team which had matches in New Zealand.  He also was part of the Bay of Plenty U18 training squad that year, and later the New Zealand U20 training squad.

From 2014-2016, Dan played for Bay of Plenty, making 27 appearances, and scoring 172 points in the ITM Cup. He then signed with Agen on a short-term contract, which allowed him to return in time for the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup competition. Instead, he signed a two-year contract with Coca-Cola Red Sparks in the Japanese League.

He returned to New Zealand for both the 2019 and 2020 Mitre 10 Cup seasons with the Bay of Plenty Steamers and played in two matches for the Super Rugby Highlanders in 2019. When Dan is not playing for the Steamers, he is with Te Puke Sports. Dan also signed with the China Lions in 2020 and trained off and on with the Crusaders.

In 2021 Dan will join a talented Rugby United New York team for the Major League Rugby season.
