The Utah Warriors signed Rodney Iona for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old flyhalf/center is 5’10” and 195 lbs.
Rodney is from Melbourne, Australia, and attended Chandler High School, Keysborough. He played for the Tuggeranong Vikings from 2011-2016 in the ACTRU Premier Division while attending initially attending the Brumbies Academy. In 2013 he played for the Brumbies Sevens which won the World Club Sevens Championship and also the World Club 10s in Singapore that year.
From 2014-2016 he played with the Super Rugby Brumbies, making three appearances, and also played in the inaugural National Rugby Championship with the Canberra Vikings. He then left for the France Rugby Pro D2 league with Béziers Hérault for the 2016-2017 season, before suffering a neck injury.
Once healthy again, he moved to the Spanish Division de Honor de Rugby side UE Santboiana for 2017-2018. In 2019-2020 he played in the English RFU Championship for the Jersey Reds, for Melbourne Rising in the NRC, and in 2020 played for the Shute Shield winning Gordon RFC. Rodney has also played rugby for Moorabbin Rams Rugby Club.
Rodney also earned 3 test caps for Samoa in 2018. He made his debut against Fiji, followed by Tonga, and then against Germany.
