The Utah Warriors signed Aston Fortuin for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old lock (25 in April) is 6’6″ and 255lbs.
Aston was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and attended Southdowns College. He played youth rugby for the Border Bulldogs and represented the team’s U16s at Grant Khomo Week, as well as for Southdowns.
Following his graduation, he played with the Blue Bulls from 2013-2017 and represented the U18s at Craven Week. He also represented South Africa in 2014, playing for the South Africa Schools.
He played with the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup in 2016 and in 2017, as well as for the University of Pretoria (UP Tuks) in the Varsity Cup those same years with the team winning the 2017 Varsity Cup. In 2018 he played for the Super Rugby Blue Bulls and during the 2019-2020 season, the Pro14 Rugby Southern Kings.
The Utah Warriors will have size at lock with Puna Vuli and Matt Jensen at 6’7″ and Maddy Dalton and Aston at 6’6″.
