Utah Warriors Re-Signs Jurie Van Vuuren

The Utah Warriors re-signed Jurie Van Vuuren for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 27-year-old lock/back-row is 6’4″ and 260 lbs.

During the truncated 2020 MLR season, Jurie started all five matches at No.8. Jurie played with Rhinos Rugby 10s at the World Tens Series in Bermuda earlier this month.

Jurie was born in Ladybrand, South Africa, and attended Oakdale Agricultural High School. Following his graduation in 2011, he attended the Western Province Rugby Institute, playing with the U19s in 2012, the U21s in 2013, and moved to the Senior ranks in 2014 despite being eligible to play for the U21s.

He also was selected to the 2012 South Africa U20s for the IRB Junior World Championship. In 2013 he also played for the Stellenbosch University Maties.

Jurie moved on to the Stormers in 2014 making his debut against the Brumbies off the bench in Canberra and played through the 2016 season. He played with Western Province from 2014-2017, Southern Kings from 2017-2019, and Eastern Province Elephants in 2018-2019 in the Currie Cup and Rugby Challenge.
