San Diego Legion re-signed Faka’osi Pifeleti for the2021 Major league Rugby season, his fourth with the team. The 24-year-old loosehead prop is 6’0″ and 265lbs.
Faka’osi started the first two matches of the truncated MLR season and returned after a minor injury as a replacement in the fifth match of the season.
During the 2019 season, he played 746 minutes in 18 matches, scoring three tries. He carried the ball 72 times for 314 meters, had 1 linebreak, 2 tackle breaks, 2 offloads, and made 104 tackles. In 2018 he played 204 minutes in five matches, starting twice.
Faka’osi was born in California and is of Tongan heritage. His family moved to England where he attended Oaklands College Hertfordshire. He played club rugby with Burnham and with Luton Rugby Clubs. Prior to signing a contract with the Legion, he played with the Saracens Storm with his younger brother Kapeli.
Both brothers excelled for the Legion in 2019 and it is expected that Kapeli, a hooker, will be back in 2020.
Faka’osi Pifeleti will be back as a loosehead prop. He is a threatening player that uses his dominance and power to repeatedly push the SD Legion pack over the line. 2021 will be Faka’osi’s third season with SD Legion, playing a major role in both the 2019 and 2020 seasons. SD Legion coaches expect him to live up to his reputation of bullying the opposition into submission.
