The Dallas Jackals signed Adonnis Lee-Johnson to their 2021 development side. The 25-year-old projected prop (26 in December) is 6’1″ and 250 lbs.
Adonnis is from Los Angeles, California, and lives in Arcata. He attended Lawndale High School, graduating in 2013. He played football as a defensive tackle and middle linebacker for his four years at Lawndale, as well as being a track and field athlete, who had first-team Pioneer finished in both the shot put and discus.
He attended Humboldt State University from 2013-2019, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design. He thought he was going to play college football, however, once he arrived his position at fullback was already filled. He then turned to rugby for the Lumberjacks, playing center, wing, and flyhalf. He also served as the club’s Vice-President and then President. During his first season with the Lumberjacks, he scored 23 tries in three 7s tournaments and seven 15s matches.
After playing for the Gentlemen of Aspen during 2014 and 2015, while at Humboldt State, he transferred to Santa Rosa Junior College for a season, before returning to Humboldt State to complete his Bachelor’s degree and resume playing rugby with the team.
In 2019 he played rugby league for the Los Angeles Mongrel in the California Rugby League.
Adonnis applied for the MLR inaugural college draft that was held in June 2020 and has now signed a free-agent contract with the Dallas Jackals for their development team.
Dallas Jackals Comments
Adonis said, “I found my love for the game.” To gain experience, the Humboldt Head Coach sent Adonnis to Aspen, Colorado for two summers. Adonnis joined the Gentlemen of Aspen RFC, which is the same club USA Eagle and Glasgow Warrior Carlin Isles played for. Under Cameron McIntyre’s wing, Adonnis perfected countless fundamentals from the run game to defense.
Adonnis commented that he is excited to be a Jackal to not only further add to his rugby toolbox, but also learn from great rugby talent. “I love friendly competition and it fuels my fire to play alongside great players.” Adonnis is looking forward to the sports heavy Texas lifestyle and exposing Dallas to a new sport. Welcome to the pack Adonnis!
