The Seattle Seawolves re-signed Tim Metcher for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old tighthead prop is 5’11” and 255 lbs.
Tim played in all five games for the Seawolves during the truncated MLR season, starting three of them. He then played nine games with Southern Districts at tighthead prop in the Shute Shield competition in Sydney, Australia.
Tim had an outstanding 2019 MLR season playing in all 18 matches, starting 17 times and playing 924 minutes. He carried 38 times for 149 meters, added 139 tackles, and scored one try. He then went to New Zealand to play for Counties Manukau during the off-season. During the 2018 season, Tim played 547 minutes, while starting 9 of 10 matches.
Prior to arriving with the Seawolves for their 2018 MLR season, Metcher had five injuries prior to age 26, which caused him to miss valuable time. In 2018 he was healthy for the Seawolves in their eleven matches played. This included their one-match exhibition season, an eight-game regular season, and two playoff matches that culminated with the team winning the inaugural Major League Rugby Championship.
Upon the conclusion of the MLR season, Tim was named to the first team All-MLR team at tighthead prop. His presence in the forwards contributed to the team having perhaps the best scrummaging team in the League.
Tim Metcher was born in Maroubra, Australia, but moved to Coffs Harbour soon after. He began playing rugby at an early age. In 2011 he joined the Brumbies Academy, was selected captain of New South Wales in the Australian Schools Rugby Championships, was selected for the Australian U-20 national team, and played in the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship in Italy.
Metcher played club rugby for the Gungahlin Eagles in 2010, Randwick in 2011, and in 2012 he had his first professional contract with Southern Districts in the Sydney Shute Shield.
In 2013 he against the British and Irish Lions twice coming off the bench for Western Force and starting for the Combined NSW-QLD Country team. In 2015-2016 he played for Melbourne Rising and made his Super Rugby debut in 2015 with the Melbourne Rebels, where he played through 2017.
Metcher was lored to the Pacific Northwest by the Nanaimo Hornets of the BC Premier league in 2017 according to Mark McRugby. An injury in Australia during his last match, led to him coaching the Hornets scrum instead of playing.
In 2018, he signed with the Seattle Seawolves and helped the team win back-to-back Major League Rugby Championships. He returned to the team in 2020 to defend the shield, but due to the season prematurely ending due to COVID-10, the Seawolves will still be the defending MLR champions entering the 2021 season.
