Rugby United New York re-signed Evan Mintern for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old back-row (25 in January) is 6’4″ and 260 lbs.
Evan signed with RUNY for 2020 but did not play during the regular season due to visa delays.
Evan is from Blackrock, Cork, Ireland, and attended Christian Brother’s College in Cork. He began playing youth rugby with Cork Constitution at age 4 and returned to the team after high school in 2015-2016. At Christian Brother’s he played with the U15s and then with Munster U18s Schools team.
From 2015-2019 Evan pursued a degree in Nutrition and Health Sciences at the Cork Institute of Technology and played occasionally with the club team. He mainly played with Cork Constitution in the All-Ireland League.
In 2016 Cork Constitution won the Under 20 All Ireland League Championship and led to his selection to the Ireland U20s team for the World Rugby Championship in 2016 at lock. In 2017 Cork Con won the All-Ireland Cup and the League Championship and he played for Munster A five times n the back row. In 2018 the team advanced to the AIL final, but could not complete winning back-to-back titles. However, 2019 was a different story with Cork Constitution winning another AIL championship.
