New England Free Jacks Signs Sean Yacoubian

The New England Free Jacks signed Sean Yacoubian through the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old scrumhalf (27 in June) is 5’9″ and 200 lbs.

Sean played one match as a reserve for the Colorado Raptors during the truncated 2020 MLR season due to COVID-19.

Sean is from Paisley, Scotland, and attended St. Columbia’s School, as well as the University of Strathclyde. He then continued his education in the U.S. at Saint Mary’s College of California from 2017-2019.

He played rugby Saint Columbia High School’s 1st XV before progressing through the Glasgow District age-grade levels. He was part of the Scotland U20s extended squad before playing in 2014 in the final U20 6 Nations match against Wales at Colwyn Bay in March 2014.

Sean also played for the Glasgow Hawks in 2010 with the U17s and continuing through the Senior team, as well as making an appearance for the Glasgow Warriors Sevens.

Sean attended Saint Mary’s College of California from 2017-2019, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. He helped the Gaels advance to the USA Rugby D1A quarterfinals both seasons, and Saint Mary’s honored him as their 2019 MVP and Ironman Award winner. He also was a first-team Collegiate All-American in 2018 and in 2019 and helped with the team gain a win against an All-Canada University XV in 2019.

New England Free Jacks Comments

“I’m really looking forward to playing in Boston and being a part of the team,” said Sean. “Seeing all the work the Free Jacks have put in during the offseason has been amazing and I can’t wait to get started.”

“We are excited to welcome one of the best performing collegiate players of recent years,” commented Free Jacks Technical Advisor, James Willocks. “We have been really impressed by his knowledge, vision, and skill set, but more so, his work ethic and desire to develop. Welcome to New England, Sean.”

The 5’ 9”, 200 lb scrumhalf is physically bigger than most in his position, giving him an edge around the breakdown and with the ball in hand. Sean brings a work ethic fitting to the Free Jacks way, which supporters will undoubtedly see when he takes the pitch for the Free Jacks in 2021.

Join Sean and the Free Jacks for a virtual Town Hall “News and Brews,” on October 15. Grab a Free Jacks IPA, join the virtual gathering, and get to know the newest Free Jacks and the returning players. RSVP using the link here: https://www.freejacks.com/news-and-brews/.
