The Houston SaberCats re-signed Charlie Connolly for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old tighthead prop (23 in October) is 5’9″, and 260 lbs.
In 2020, Charlie played in four matches, starting three times. He played 767 minutes in the team’s 16 matches in 2019, starting 11, and scoring 1 try. He had 1 tackle break, 3 offloads, and made 66 tackles. Following the 2019 season, Jamie played with Canterbury in the English Third Divison, National One.
Charlie is from Dublin, Ireland, and played for Black Rock College, Trinity College, Leinster, and Ireland Under-20s at the World Rugby Championship and the U20 Six Nations in 2017.
He then played for Mogliano in the Italian Eccellenza, starting the three matches he played. He then moved to Northern Wales and played with RGC 1404 in the Welsh Principality Premiership.
Charlie will be a welcome addition at prop for the team with the retirement of Adam Macklin and with Codi Jones returning from injury. Paul Mullen also played with the team last year and is unattached after playing in England for Newcastle Falcons and then for the Doncaster Knights on short contracts.
Teams typically, replace their front rows during a match, so having a number of front row players on the team is essential to compete during the course of the season.
