Houston SaberCats Re-Signs Dewet Roos

The Houston SaberCats re-signed Dewet Roos for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old scrumhalf is 5’7″ and 175lbs.

Dewet started all five matches for the SaberCats in 2020 and was the team’s captain.

Dewet was born in South Africa and moved to Sydney, Australia. He attended Endeavour Sports High School in Caringbah, a southern suburb of Sydney in New South Wales. He began playing rugby at age 12 with the Sylvania Bulldogs.

Prior to moving from South Africa, he was a national champion wrestler for his weight class in freestyle and Olympic categories. He continued with the sport for 1-2 years in Australia before devoting his attention to rugby.

He played rugby for Southern Districts in 2014, making it to the Shute Shield Final. He played with the  Sydney Rams in 2015, with the team advancing to the 2015 Buildcorp National Rugby Championship. He also played with the Australian Barbarians from 2015-2019, the Sydney Rays in 2016 and 2017, the ACT Brumbies in 2017, earning 11 Super Rugby caps, and played with the NSW Country Eagles in 2018 & 2019. He also played four times for the Classic Wallabies since his debut in 2018.

The SaberCats welcome Dewet Roos to the 2020 squad. The standout scrumhalf is known for his immense acceleration and accurate delivery comes to us from most recently representing the NSW Country Eagles during the 2018 NRC campaign. Help us welcome him to the team!
