Rugby ATL Extends Marno Redelinghuys Contract Through 2022

Rugby ATL extended Marno Redelinghuy’s contract through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 27-year-old flanker (28 in January) is 6’5″ and 255 lbs.

Marno played 80 minutes two appearances for Rugby ATL last season before being sidelined with an injury. A highlight for both Redelinghuys and Rugby ATL last season was his securing a clutch offload in the 62’ minute from a countryman, Johan Momsen, to score the game-winner against the Utah Warriors in the franchise opener.⁣⁣

Marno is from Klerksdorp, South Africa, and resides in Potchefstroom. He attended Hoërskool Schoonspruit before going to North-West University from 2014-2017 and graduating with a Business Degree.  He then moved to Cape Town as a post-graduate at Stellenbosch University and played rugby for the Maties in the Varsity Cup in 2018. Then it was onto Western Province.

Marno’s Senior rugby career began with the Leopards XV in 2015, as well as the Leopards from 2015-2017. During 2018-2019 he played with Western Province in both the Currie Cup and the Rugby Challenge. In 2019 made one Super Rugby appearance with the Stormers against the Golden Lions.

Rugby ATL Comments

“Marno brings special abilities as a lock/6 who can create offload mismatches combined with his speed in the air at lineout time. He scored one of our more exciting tries this season and we’re looking for more of the same in 2021. With Marno putting down roots and enrolling in Life University’s graduate program we see him as part of our future here at Rugby ATL,” said Head Coach, Scott Lawrence.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Redelinghuys is taking full advantage of his opportunity here in the States and is adamant about a long term commitment to pursue the American dream. With a big picture focus in mind, he has enrolled in the Doctorate of Chiropractic program at Life University. Redelinghuys continues to showcase the opportunities that Rugby ATL and Major League Rugby can offer players from RSA as they look to grow as professional athletes and individuals.⁣
