Rugby United New York Signs Faasiu Fuatai

Rugby United New York signed Faasiu Fuatai for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old outside back (27 in August) is 6’0″ (1,80) and 207 lbs (94kg).

Fasi is from Auckland, New Zealand, and attended secondary school at King’s College in Auckland from 2007-2011. From 2012-2016 he attended the University of Otago, graduating with an LLB. He also started his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Politics, however, his career aspirations of playing rugby did not allow for its completion.

While at Otago he played both junior and senior representative rugby from 2013-2017. He played for the Otago U20s, as well as for the New Zealand U20s that competed in the Junior World Cup in France in 2013. In 2015, he was contracted with the All Blacks Sevens team, but injuries prevented his inclusion in the HSBC World Sevens Series. In 2017, he played in the Paris and London tournaments.

After playing for Otago in the ITM Cup and for the Mitre 10 Cup, he played for the Bordeaux Bégles in the Top 14 and in the European Challenge Cup from 2017-2019. From 2018-present, he played for the Bay of Plenty first in the National Provincial Championship and then in the Mitre 10 Cup. He also played and scored a try for the Crusaders in a January 2020 preseason match against the Hurricanes.
