West Houston Lions Names Pedrie Wannenberg Head Coach

West Houston Rugby Club announced the hiring of Head Coach Pedrie Wannenburg.

Pedrie has played rugby for two decades as a professional rugby player and was a player-coach for Austin Elite in 2018 and an Assistant Coach for the team in 2019. During 2019-2020 he was a project manager and sales representative in the Houston area.

Pedrie played 20 times for the South Africa Springboks from 2002-2007, the Blue Bulls 2001-2010, Ulster from 2010-2012, Castres from 2012-2014, and Oyonnax from 2014-2016. In 2016 he moved to the United States to play for Denver Stampede in PRO Rugby, where he served as the captain as well. He also played with the Austin Huns. Pedrie Wannenburg has won three Super Rugby titles and five Currie Cups.

With the Lions, Pedrie is eager to continue the development of competitive men’s rugby in the US and build upon the club’s grassroots foundation.
