Toronto Arrows Signs Gaston Cortes

The Toronto Arrows signed Gaston Cortes for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 34-year-old tighthead prop (35 in October) is 5’11” and 240 lbs.

Gaston is from Cordoba, Argentina, and played rugby for the Cordoba Athletic Club until 2012. He represented the Argentina National Team five times, making his debut on 22 May 2011 against Chile in the South American Rugby Championship and the last of his tests was against New Zealand in the Rugby Championship on 8 September 2018.

Gaston played professionally for the Bristol Bears from 2012-2018 before leaving to play for the Leicester Tigers from 2018-2020. He made 114 appearances for Bristol and ten appearances for Leicester before signing a short-term contract in 2020 with the PRO 14 Glasgow Warriors. He did not play for Glasgow prior to the season-ending prematurely due to COVID-19.

Tighthead prop is a key position in rugby and the Arrows have added another quality professional player at that position for the 2021 MLR season.

Toronto Arrows Comments

Arrows Vice President and General Manager Mark Winokur said that “Gastón Cortés brings years of experience from the English Premiership, Championship and Argentina, and will be a big help to our group of young props both on and off the field.”
