Toronto Arrows Re-Signs Tomas de la Vega for 2021

The Toronto Arrows re-signed openside flanker Tomás de la Vega for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old (30 in September) is 6’4″, 225 lbs, and is from Buenas Aires, Argentina.

During the 2020 season, he was impressive as a starter for all 5 matches. He led the team in minutes played (396), only being off the pitch for 4 of them. He made 70 tackles, carried 59 times, had 34 lineout takes, and made 7 offloads.

He attended Pontificia Catholic University studying law, Cardenal Newman College, Earning a B.S. in Economics, and Austral University in 2018. He is an attorney.

Tomás played in the 2009 and 2010 World Rugby U20 Championships for Argentina. He played club rugby for Club Universitario de Buenas Aires (CUBA) since 2010 and was the team’s captain. He also played for the  Pampas XV from 2011-2014. The team won the South African Vodacom Cup in 2011 and the Pacific Cup in Australia in 2014.

Tomás made his debut for Argentina against Chile on May 22, 2011, and his last of his 12 tests was against Scotland on June 20, 2014.

In 2014 he turned down the domestic PladAR program and missed out on the 2015 World Cup as a result. De la Vega returned to international rugby with the Argentina XV for the 2017 and 2018 Americas Rugby Championship.
