San Diego Legion Release
San Diego, CA (May 28, 2020) – San Diego Legion has named Scott Murray and Zack Test as its new co-Head Coaches. Together, they will lead all Legion coaching duties.
“Each with storied rugby careers as players, including multiple Rugby World Cups, Olympics and Lions Tours, and their most recent work as very talented assistant coaches, Zack and Scott are well placed to take over our head-coaching role,” said San Diego Legion Chairman Darren Gardner. “Both have shown they could easily do the head-coach job in their own right, so Ryan and I feel very fortunate to have them working in combination. We are excited about our next chapter and this is the first step.”
Before starting his coaching career, Murray earned 87 caps at Lock for the Scottish National Team, also playing in both the English Premier League and French League. Murray was SD Legion’s Forwards Coach for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
“As we look forward to the 2021 season, our organization is very focused on winning an MLR championship for our fans and the broader community in San Diego,” said SD Legion President & CEO Ryan Patterson. “Darren and I are confident Zack and Scott will push our team to the next level, on and off the field.”
Comments from Scott Murray and Zack Test on accepting the Head Coach role:
“In a short period of time, SD Legion has built a world-class organization and a fantastic culture,” said Murray. “I am very excited to help further that and continue the team delivering success on the field.”
“We have a fantastic rugby organization at SD Legion,” said Test. “I am looking forward to continuing to develop our team and winning style of rugby that fans and the San Diego community can be proud of.”
