Rugby ATL Release
Harley Wheeler has been temporarily released by Rugby ATL to pursue his Olympic dreams in 2021. Wheeler will return to RugbyATL for the remainder of his multi-year contract in the 2022 season. The physical wing started in 4 of the 5 matches for Rugby ATL in the inaugural season. Making his debut at Hooker for USA 7s during the 2019 Pan-American games, Harley now sets his focus on becoming a 2021 Olympian.
General Manager and Head Coach, Scott Lawrence reflected on the development goal of creating Eagles through Rugby ATL in the decision to temporarily release Wheeler for the 2020-2021 Olympic campaign.
“The MLR was founded with the intention of making the United States more competitive on the International stage and we (Rugby ATL) are committed to that cause. We wish Harley the best and hope he is able to further develop as a player and as a person in pursuit of his Olympic dream. We are grateful to provide another American wing an opportunity to fill Harley’s shoes for us in pursuit of an Eagles 15s jersey”
Wheeler’s release and transfer to USA 7s training program takes place with immediate effect.
