Houston SaberCats Charlie Hewitt 2020 Profile

The Houston SaberCats re-signed Charlie Hewitt for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old lock is 6’7″, and 275 lbs. He will turn 25 just prior to the beginning of the 2020 season.

Charlie suffered a season-ending injury prior to the beginning of the 2019 season. He was a key contributor in 2018 and also served as an Academy coach.

Charlie went to Devonport High School for Boys from 2006-2011 and then to Ivybridge College from 2011-2013. He attended The Open University in 2017 in a Bachelor’s Distance Learning Program, which leads to a BA in Business Administration and Management.

Charlie’s rugby development progressed at Bath and then at the Exeter Chiefs Academy and represented England for the Under-18s. He played for the London Scottish FC in the English Championship and in the British Irish Cup. In 2015, he switched to the Worcester Warriors Academy and made his senior debut against the Barbarians at home in September 2015. His first match against a Senior Premiership team was against the Saracens in the last match of the 2015/2016 season. In the 2016/2017 season, he made 5 appearances for the Warriors, four of them in the European Challenge Cup.

Charlie was a good addition to the Houston SaberCats during the inaugural 2018 Major League Rugby season. After the season he returned  Plymouth, U.K to spend some time with family and friends and was excited to begin the 2019 MLR season, however, an injury derailed his season. He is healthy again and expect him to be an important contributor in 2020!
