Austin Herd Signs Wesley White for 2020 Season

The Austin Herd, formerly called Austin Elite Rugby, has signed Wesley White through the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old (25 in Dec.) No.8 is 6’1″ and 220 lbs. according to his Lindenwood University player profile.

Wesley was a two-time Collegiate All-American, two-time Collegiate Rugby Championship winner and MVP in 2019, as well as at the USA Rugby 7s Nationals that year. The team won three consecutive USA Rugby National College Sevens titles, and also advanced to the USA D1A Rugby XVs Final Four. While playing for the USA Collegiate All-Americans against Canada, he was selected as the Man of the Match by Canada.

He came to Lindenwood in December 2016 and has played rugby with the team since then. While at the university, he served as the rugby team’s video producer of motivational and promotional videos.

Wesley was born in Cape Town, South Africa and attended Bishops Diocesan College. He played first XV rugby and in 2013 was listed as a flanker. In 2013 he played for the Western Province U18 team in the South African Schools International against  Montpellier junior team in France. He was under contract with the Western Province Rugby Academy in Stellenbosch that year.

In 2014 he moved to Durban and played with the Sharks U19 team from April-December. There he was listed as a hooker. His father Jake was Director of Rugby with the Sharks. In 2015 he played with the French PRO D2 team, Montauban from August through December.

Wesley then turned his attention to pursuing his education at Lindenwood University. Recently, he was invited to the USA Sevens High-Performance Camp.
