Seattle Seawolves Release
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting the Tasman Mako of New Zealand in January for an exhibition match at Starfire Stadium as part of their first American tour.
“It is a privilege to lead the Mako on their first overseas tour and we’re looking forward to the games in Houston and Seattle in January. It is an incredible opportunity for the next generation of Mako players to play competitively in the United States and a unique opportunity for the Tasman Rugby Union for which we are all grateful,” said Tim Perry, Mako tour captain and All Black #1162.
Currently, on a six-game winning streak in the Mitre 10, the Tasman Mako is comprised of predominate players from New Zealand, including a handful of All Blacks and Super Rugby talent. The match up with the Mako will be one of two matches the team from Tasman Bay will play while in the United States. They will face the Houston SaberCats before heading to the Pacific Northwest to take on the reigning Major League Rugby Champions on January 26. The Mako will provide a dynamic test with their speed of play for the Seattle Seawolves heading into their third season and another chance to defend their title.
“We believe this a unique opportunity not only for the Tasman Mako region to showcase our rugby talent but also for the region’s exporters to promote themselves in these two markets,” said Tony Lewis, CEO of Tasman Rugby Union.
“I am honored to have the Tasman Mako come and provide great competition for our players and a unique experience for our fans,” says Owner and President of the Seawolves, Shane Skinner.
The Seawolves will kick off against the Mako on January 26 at 7:00 pm PT at Starfire Stadium. Tickets to #SEAvTAS are included in 2020 season ticket holder packages, which can be purchased at www.seattleseawolves.com. Single-game tickets will become available for purchase at a later date.
