Chicago Lions Charitable Association Opens the Lions for Hope Sports Complex

Chicago Lions Release by Jeff Simon

On September 21st, the Chicago Lions Charitable Association (CLCA) in partnership with Chicago Hope Academy will host the Reveal the Field event. They will be unveiling and breaking in the newly finished J. Tyke Nollman Field at the Lions for Hope Sports Complex with a series of rugby matches throughout the day, beginning at 9 am CDT with youth rugby. The complex is located at 2637 W. Polk Street.

This is a historic event for the Chicago Lions Rugby organization. Since it was founded in 1964, the Lions had a vision of playing on their own field near the center of the great city of Chicago. That dream is finally taking form.

In 2015, The CLCA partnered with Chicago Hope Academy to purchase the land to begin building the Lions for Hope Sports Complex, a premier multi-sports facility in the North Lawndale/East Garfield Park community. Through this partnership, the Chicago Lions have made a commitment to transform one of Chicago’s most underserved neighborhoods.

The Lions for Hope Sports Complex is an 8-acre parcel that will have two multi-purpose athletic fields with a field house in the middle.

The facility will provide a new and exciting venue for engaging with local youth through athletics.  But it will also allow for the CLCA, Hope and other local organizations to enhance these relationships through tutoring, counseling and mentoring as we focus on helping develop whole individuals, Whether that means learning in one of the available multi-purpose rooms, participating in an event hosted by a community organization in the expansive main room, or taking a break by taking a walk, this space is meant to offer physical and mental health benefits while also bringing the community together.

Once completed, the Lions for Hope Sports Complex will be recognized as a safe place for the community to gather through athletics and education. Its mission is to expand life opportunities for local youth and increase their social capital.

We are thrilled to have completed this phase of the Lions for Hope Sports Complex capital campaign and look forward to the next steps. Visit www.lionsforhopesc.org to learn more.
