The New England Free Jacks have signed Jon Kokinda for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 34-year-old openside flanker is 5’9″ and 200 lbs. He played with the team during the 2018-2019 exhibition season. Jon also played for the Boston Mystics in the MLR Spring exhibition season.
Jon is from Wakefield, Massachusetts and has played rugby for 15 years. He attended Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He played rugby while there and then played club rugby for the Middlesex Barbarians prior to their merger with Mystic River Rugby Club. He is the captain of Mystic River.
Jon played for the Men’s Collegiate All-Stars in 2009 against University of California, Berkeley, for the Northeast Olympic Development Academy, in the World Club Sevens for New York City in London at Twickenham in 2014. He has been the captain of Mystic River and helped the team win two USA Club Rugby Division 1 National Championships in 2016 and in 2018.
