Seattle Saracens Name Liz Kirk Women’s Director of Rugby

Seattle Saracens Release:

Seattle Saracens are delighted to announce Liz Kirk as their Women’s Program Director of Rugby.

Club President, Kevin Flynn, said; “The club is incredibly fortunate in being able to have Liz run our program and the incredible amount of experience and talent that she brings with her. Liz is a great addition to our program. She has international and BCRU premiership rugby experience who knows what it takes to play elite rugby, so is therefore the perfect role model for our Women’s program.

Liz is strongly aligned with the club’s core values, culture, mission and vision to provide opportunities for young men & women to succeed both on and off the field with the help through the sport of rugby.”

Liz, the women’s forwards coach since 2000, has been a member of the Seattle club since 1992. Her 24 year playing experience began in Albany, NY. Liz played every front row position throughout her career in Seattle and captained the Seattle side, as well as the Northwest and West Coast select sides, several times.

As a prop, Liz earned 23 caps for the USA between 1996 and 2003. She competed in the 1998 World Cup, in which the USA placed second to New Zealand, and in the 2002 World Cup. From 2000-2005, Liz also served as the forwards coach for the USA U23 Women’s National Team with tours to Canada, England, and New Zealand, and as front row technical coach for the USA Women’s National Team (2004-2006).

In 2017, Liz was the scrum coach for the USA Women’s National Team when they placed 4th in the World Cup.

Since 2016, Liz has also been involved in youth rugby as one of the coaches of the Fall City Mountain Lions, on the coaching staff of the boys Loggers program, and as a co-founder of Real Rugby Academy, a skills focused academy for youth players.

Liz commented; “I’m excited to step into this new role! I look forward to working with the men’s and women’s sides to build on established principles and practices as we work toward common goals. A personal goal is that through our collective efforts everyone involved in the Seattle Saracens will take pride in our competitive identity on the field as much as our cohesion and positivity off the field.”

Outside of rugby, Liz is the Associate Director of the Nutritional Sciences Program, in the School of Public Health, at the University of Washington.
