NEW YORK (June 24, 2019)- New York’s professional rugby franchise, Rugby United New York, is thrilled to announce the formation of our Under-23 Academy program. Phil Terrigno, Head Coach of the Under-20 program, will lead the squad as the Head Coach.

The team will consist of athletes from the greater New York City area, including athletes that competed for the Under 20 program this past spring. Standouts Jack Swords (Prop, Holy Cross) and Elijah Billips (Center, Life U/ PRUSA) will look to continue their strong form wearing the RUNY crest after impressive performances with the Under 20s.

The team’s first test will be this Saturday, June 29th at Iona College, when the young Roosters will match up against the Men’s Collegiate All Americans. The kick off time will be confirmed later this week.  Admission to the event will be free.

“Creating this pathway is essential to the future of our organization,” RUNY General Manager James English said. “We need to identify the top athletes in our area and develop them into Major League Rugby players.”
