USA Men’s Collegiate All-American Selection Camp

Head Coach James Willocks and staff have identified 72 student-athletes for the second annual Men’s Collegiate All-American Selection Camp 2019 that begins today.

The 2019 assembly will consist of three phases with regional camps hosted on the West and East Coast United States at Silver Lakes Complex in Norco, CA from June 19-22 and Iona College in New Rochelle, NY from June 26-29, respectively.

Both camps will be used to make selections for the final round in Glendale, CO from July 21-28 where the All-Americans will face a newly formed All-Canadian University XVs team on July 27 at Infinity Park. The match will serve as a curtain raiser for the senior Men’s Eagles test match against rival-Canada as part of Pacific Nations Cup 2019.

First, Second and Third team All-Americans will be announced following the match where the full pool of players who originally assembled for Selection Camp will be considered. Athletes who were invited but unavailable to attend at any phase will also be considered for All-American honors.

The inaugural year saw two players make their national team debut in Men’s Eagles’ Chance Wenglewski and Eagles Sevens Marcus Tupuola.

Wenglewski has since earned three caps in fifteens while Tupuola helped the USA Men’s Sevens qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and reach a historic World No. 2 ranking.

Head Coach James Willocks said: “With the vast landscape of college rugby, we’ve been able to utilize the great network of coaches and All-Conference lists to compile a very diverse pool of students across multiple conferences and divisions. We are excited by some of the fresh faces who will compete for a shot at All-American honors.  After a very successful camp last year we are excited to get into it. As a staff, we are very thankful for the efforts and sacrifices these students, their supporters, and families make to allow them to compete at the highest level.”

The 2019 Selection Camp roster includes 18 returning players from last year. Athletes at each camp will work directly with All-American staff to train and compete in trial games where performances will be evaluated for advancement to the final round in Colorado.

Tickets for the All-American curtain raiser and senior test match on July 27 at Infinity Park start at only $30 for General Admission at usarugby.org/tickets. One ticket is valid for both games with broadcast details to be announced closer to date.
