San Diego Legion Outlasts Utah Warriors

The Utah Warriors lost 31-21 to the first-place San Diego Legion on May 18 at Zions Bank Stadium.

The Warriors next match is Sunday, May 26 at the Seattle Seawolves. The match can be seen locally on KMYU-TV. The last match the season for the Warriors is Saturday, June 1st against the Houston SaberCats who upset the New Orleans Elite today 27-21.

The Legion has a bye week and ends their season at home on June 2 against second-place NOLA Gold.

Match Recap

The match between the Utah WArriros was a tight one with the Utah Warriors losing 17-7 to the first place San Diego Legion at the break. The teams combined to score 21 points in the final 7 minutes of the match with the Legion prevailing 31-12.

With the win, the Legion’s record of 11-3-1 for 57 points, while the Warriors falls to 2-11-1 with 17 total points.

Both teams had early scoring chances with Jordan Manihera crossing in-goal, but knocking the ball on and Don Pati slashing downfield. The Legion scored first with Manihera grounding the ball and Tai Enosa converting.

After Matt Jensen secured a lineout throw, Jeremy Leber finished from a maul to level the match at 7 all after O’Malley’s conversion.

The Legion Save Totovosau then scored a try after Mike Te’o drew in O’Malley. After Semple was sent to the bin Totovosau added another try in the corner to lead 17-7 at the break.

Second Half

The second half saw John Ika evading tacklers for a try to cut the Legion lead to 17-14 after O’Malley’s conversion.

Nate Augspurger scored a try after a maul and Nick Lupian converted to push the lead to 24-7. The Warriors quickly answered back with a  try by John Cullen in the 78′ minute, with Tim O’Malley converting, 24-21. The Legion’s Mike Te’o, however, scored a minute later making the final score to 31-21.
