NOLA Gold Rugby Adds Alex Maughan

NOLA Gold Rugby added Alex Maughan for the remainder of the Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old hooker and prop is 5’10” and 240 lbs.

Alex is from Charlotte, North Carolina and attended Arborbrook Christian Academy. He went to Life University from 2014-2018, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He was the captain of the two -time D1A National Champions in 2016 and in 2018. He was an All-American and toured with the AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans to Queensland, Australia in 2016. Currently, he is enrolled in an MBA program at Louisiana State University.

Alex has played for the USA Selects in the Americas Pacific Challenge and for the Eagles XVs (No. 508), where he played against Uruguay in the 2017 Americas Rugby championship. He was also selected to the Eagles extended squad in 2018, but did not play.

The Major League Rugby season consists of 16 regular season matches with the prospect of playing two more if teams reach the Championship. Injuries are always a factor and with Ben Tarr out for the remainder of the season, Alex has joined NOLA Gold at the right time. He made his MLR debut two weeks ago at hooker against Austin Elite Rugby.
