The Seattle Seawolves outlasted NOLA Gold Rugby 25-24 on April 21 at Starfire Stadium. NOLA Gold remained in first place after picking up two bonus points, while the Seawolves are in third place based on point differential with two points behind NOLA Gold.
Seattle will travel to Toronto to face the Arrows on April 28, while NOLA Gold has a bye week before hosting Austin Elite Rugby on May 4.
Match Recap
The Seawolves came out playing aggressively and attacked from a lineout 5-meters from the tryline. Jeremy Lenaerts crossed the line but was held up in-goal. The Seawolves would score first after a Brock Staller penalty goal to lead 3-0 in the 20th minute.
NOLA Gold answered back with Eric Howard scoring from close range and Eloff slotting the conversion to take a 7-3 lead. The Seawolves reclaimed the lead with three addition Staller penalty goals for a 12-7 lead at the break.
Second Half
The Seawolves extended the lead to 19-7 after a Rekert Hattingh try and a Staller conversion. Two tries by Con Foley and Tristan Blewett cut the lead to 19-17 before Staller slotted two more penalty goals to lead 25-17,
Kevin Sullivan mauled his way in-goal for NOLA Gold fourth try, a bonus point one, but that was not enough to claim the win.
The Seattle Seawolves Brock Staller’s six penalty goals and conversion accounted to 20 of the team’s 25 points. NOLA Gold scored four tries for 24 points to one try for the Seawolves, but Seattle took advantage of Gold penalties for the win.
